VX File Browser
Multiple Commands
Use the VX File Browser to locate, preview and select a file to open or save depending on the current function. The Open/Save button will change accordingly. The VX File Browser supports multiple filters and file extensions listed in the Files of type: field, and other standard Windows file features located on the left side of the browser.
The
VX File Browser has been enhanced. It
now lists the VX Root Objects within the select
VX file and includes a Root Object search tool. Refer
to the features list below.
How to
Locate/Open a VX file:
Select
the file folder that contains your VX files.
Check the Preview
box to see what the VX file contains.
Check the Local
Copy box if you want to create/open a local copy of a selected
Root Object.
Move the mouse cursor over any
VX file and its preview will be displayed and Root Object listed.
To search for a specific Root
Object, enter its name in the Root Object
field and select the Search button.
If located,
the VX file will be selected and previewed.
Otherwise, select a VX file.
Pick
Open to load the file and Root Object into VX.

PDM
This option is only active when the SmarTeam PDM (Product Data Management) third-party application or VX PDM is installed or activated. The PDM options available are similar to those on the Applications > SmarTeam menu. See VX/SmarTeam Integration for more information and the PDM tab of the VX Configuration Form for setting up SmarTeam.
Root
object Search
You can search the current folder for VX root objects. First select the folder and then enter the search keywords in the field provided. The Search button will then become active. Select it to locate all VX files that contain root objects with the specified search string.
Preview
Check this box to show a preview of the selected file. A preview is automatically created when the Save File, Save File As, Save All Files and Save and Close File commands are used.
Local
Copy
Check this box to pull a complete copy of the selected file into your local active session directory. This option would generally be used when a file resides on another computer in a slow network. Since VX does random access on open files, performance will generally be better with a local copy. Session/Backup backs up edits to the local session copy. File/Save saves changes back to the original file.
Root Object List
This window will list all of the Root Objects within the selected VX file. Double-click a Root Object from the list to open it in VX.
