VX supports the 3DxWare SpaceBall 3D input device. First, install the SpaceBall device on your machine and do the following:

  1. Bring up the SpaceBall driver window.

  2. Select the button mapping tab.

  3. Click on the box beside the "Application Functions"

  4. Click and drag "Button 1" to what ever button that you want this assigned to.

  5. Save you changes.

Now run VX and do the following:

  1. Go to Utilities > Configuration... to display the VX Configuration Form.

  2. Pick the Display Tab and change the 3D Input Device field to spaceball.

  3. Pick OK to restart VX.

You can also run VX in console mode by typing vx -cns in a Cmd.exe console window after changing to your user directory. A series of beeps indicates successful initialization of the SpaceBall device. All SpaceBall related events can then be viewed in the console window.

Now you can use "Button 1" to toggle between three different modes of rotation in VX which are described as follows:

  1. Rotates about the world origin <Click button>.

  2. Rotates about point specified with the View Origin command <Click button>.

  3. Rotates about the axis specified with the View Axis command <Click button>.

  4. Back to rotation described in #1<Click button>.
