VX Simplifies Computer-Aided Manufacturing with Unique new Graphical InterfaceEasy to Use Visual Approach Increases Productivity and ControlView Image, for this article VX Corporation, the pioneering developer of advanced, integrated CAD/CAM solutions for engineers and industrial designers, announces that its VX® CAD/CAM software now incorporates an exceptionally easy to use graphical approach to manufacturing. Directly integrated into the core application, the new VX graphical CAM interface provides a complete overview of the entire manufacturing process associated with a product design. Each element of the machining process is displayed in a single easy to understand hierarchical tree and each element can be selected, moved, reordered and copied to provide complete control over the manufacturing process. “CAM users can now radically increase their productivity and control over manufacturing thanks to this new VX approach,” said Bob Fischer, vice president of sales and marketing at VX Corp. “The entire approach has been designed for ease of use and learning, and we’ve built in intelligence that simplifies CAM planning and decision making. At the same time, VX retains all of the precision and sequential logic necessary for very complex manufacturing.” Unlike other approaches to CAM, the new VX graphical interface does not require multiple forms and pages to establish or modify manufacturing routines. Options for each machining process are available right on the hierarchical tree by simply right-clicking on the list item, which pops up an appropriate context-sensitive selection for modifying that routine. Double-clicking on any of the CAM icons will select the most commonly used action and perform it. The new VX graphical approach can be applied to construct an entire visual manufacturing plan. In essence, VX Version 7 now provides a visual project plan that helps organize even complex manufacturing processes with tens of thousands of individual tool movements. Typically, complex manufacturing processes are difficult to visualize, but the new VX approach enables users to collapse manufacturing steps as well as hide operations in order to revise individual operations. This approach is especially useful when conducting a time study, as VX makes it very easy to replace one technique with another simply by deleting and copying-in another modular piece of machining operations. Entire manufacturing plans or sections of plans can be saved and “shrink wrapped” as templates to quickly create a new family of components with similar design geometries. VX estimates that the new CAM graphical user interface can reduce learning time by more than 50 percent and provide substantial ongoing productivity gains.
